The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

Founded

1977-05

History

May-Jun 1977, on the decision of the Industrial Development Board of B-XE3386 - UNIDO, following recommendations of 2nd General Conference, Mar 1975, Lima (Peru), and UN General Assembly Resolution 3507 (XXX) of Dec 1975. Initially set up for an 18 month trial period; became permanent body on decision of the Board, Feb 1979, following ad hoc Expert Group Meeting on pilot activities of INTIB. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Enable developing countries to have access on request to specific information on advanced and other technologies and on new uses of existing technologies, new development, possibilities of adapting them to local needs, and to select technologies which meet their requirements; facilitate and accelerate industrial and technological information flow; establish and develop a network of suppliers of such information; generate specific technical information in the area of concern to pre-investment choice of technology from alternatives in selected industrial sectors; develop links with end-users of such information in developing countries.

Structure

Network of INTIB National and Regional Focal Points (industrial and technological information service organizations, chambers of commerce, federations of industries, associations of small and medium industries, national productivity centres, research and development centres, etc) INTIB is UNIDO's information clearing house actively engaged in industrial information services.
