3 Nov 1960, Manila (Philippines), as a regional organization of the then 'International Textile and Garment Workers' Federation (ITGWF)', currently, since 5 Jun 1970, H-XB2629 - International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation (ITGLWF). Set up in cooperation with H-XA1667 - International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU). Constitution amended: Oct 1962, Tokyo (Japan); Jun 1981, Tokyo; 1985, Hong Kong; 1990, Taipei (Taiwan); 1994, Singapore (Singapore); 1998, Colombo (Sri Lanka); 2002, Okayama (Japan); 2006, Bangkok (Thailand). Ceased to exist on dissolution of ITGLWF to merge into B-XJ6079 - IndustriALL Global Union (IndustriALL).

Aims

Secure cooperation among textile, garment, shoe and leather workers' organizations in Asia and the Pacific; foster consciousness of fellowship between all workers in the trade, without distinction of nationality, race, sex, religious denomination, creed or sect; preserve and further economic, social and cultural interests of textile, garment, shoe and leather workers; secure reduction in hours of work; improve wages, working conditions and employment; achieve maximum protection of workers; eliminate adverse discrimination on grounds of race, sex, nationality or creed; ensure the integration of women into trade union organizations and promote their participation in activities and decision-making bodies at all levels.
