The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1988-04 Geneva Switzerland
History
Apr 1988, Geneva (Switzerland), to act as a focal point for follow-up initiatives on the final report of H-XE1168 - World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), entitled 'Our Common Future', which was set up 1983 and officially ceased operations on 31 Dec 1987, although reconvened 1992. Since its inception, the Centre has been key in focusing world attention on sustainable development in general and on UNCED process in particular. As of 2002, activities suspended.
Aims
Act as a nonpartisan information exchange centre mechanism and a global information clearinghouse on sustainable development initiatives. To use its experience in servicing its constituency and fulfilling its mission, the Centre plans to expand its activities by operating more like a service organization providing expertise and information, as well as monitoring and reporting on UNCED follow-up and networking.
