The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
13 Feb 1981, Paris (France), at Secretariat of H-XA1752 - International Council for Science (ICSU), replacing Group of Nineteen - or Group of 19 - comprising the 19 NGOs that jointly organized and sponsored the Singapore (Singapore) Symposium, Jan 1979. As of 1990, no longer exists.
Aims
Secure cooperation among member organizations in activities for the harnessing of science and technology for development; stimulate scientists and technologists in applying their knowledge to development problems; help to strengthen the scientific and technological capabilities of developing countries; evaluate priorities for development problems susceptible to solutions through science and technology and promote appropriate research; promote the free flow of scientific and technological information; assess the effects of actions of members of CISTOD and of other bodies, national and international, on the resolution of global problems; provide advice as required to NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and Member States of the United Nations system; monitor developments in science and technology that may have beneficial or harmful impacts, and propose appropriate action; provide, as required, advice to bodies funding development assistance; cooperate with other agencies having similar objectives.
