History

1 Nov 1969, Bucharest (Romania), as a regional body of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), replacing European Committee of the International Amateur Athletic Federation -- Comité Européen de la Fédération Internationale d'Athlétisme Amateur, set up 7 Jan 1934. Previously also known as European Athletic Association (EAA) -- Association Européenne d'Athlétisme. Statutes approved by IAAF, 31 Aug 1970. Current Constitution adopted 15 Oct 2005. Registered in accordance with the Swiss Civil Code.

Aims

Develop, promote and foster athletics (comprising track and field, road running, race walking, cross country running and mountain running) in Europe; promote fair play and other ethical values in sport and fight against all forms of doping as well as racial, religious, political and other kinds of discrimination in athletics; stage European championships and other European events; encourage friendly and cooperative relationships with and between members and defend their legal rights and interests within IAAF; maintain contact and cooperation with IAAF and its other area associations, international and national sport bodies and national and supranational authorities.
