8-12 May 1979, Fez (Morocco), at 10th K-XF4192 - Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), following proposals and recommendations of 2nd F-XF4974 - Islamic Summit of Kings and Heads of States and Governments, 22-24 Feb 1974, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Resolution 6/5-E of 5th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, 21-25 Jun 1974, Kuala Lumpur. Director General took office 1 Jul 1981, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia); 1st meeting of Scientific Council, 8-10 May 1982, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). A subsidiary organ of C-XC4129 - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Superseded Islamic Science Foundation. Ceased activities, 7 Apr 1997.
Aims
Promote scientific and technological research, in particular its applications in the Muslim world; encourage Islamic cooperation and coordination in the field; ensure integration of science and technology by Muslim States into their socio-economic plans and objectives; provide advisory services and scientific studies.
