The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History
Aug 1989, Paris (France), by H-XF0647 - Université des réseaux d'expression française (UREF), during Annual General Conference of A-XA1945 - International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Restructured Nov 1994, Fort-de-France (Martinique). Ceased to exist May 2003 due to lack of finances.
Aims
Participate in the setting up and development of a scientific policy for the French-speaking environment; promote collection, treatment and dissemination of scientific and technical information in French-speaking countries of North and South; strengthen links among French-speaking university and research libraries and documentation centres; promote access to documents and use of new information technology; contribute to training of professionals and users in information systems.
