The BTO CVB has been especially busy this month in November, participating in various MICE events. US travel agencies specializing in incentive travel were invited for a fam tour and sales consultations were conducted through a Busan MICE roadshow in Taipei.

MAASTRICHT GOES GREEN

Watch how local entrepreneurs, together with the Mayor of Maastricht, step up to create meaningful change in the 'Maastricht Goes Green' documentary

The Maastricht Convention Bureau studied on which sustainability practices have been embraced by local entrepreneurs within the meeting industry in Maastricht. We found out which 4 Sustainable Developoment Goals are particularly relevant in Maastricht and we’d love to share our industry members' sustainable initiatives!

Local entrepreneurs like Château St. Gerlach, MECC Maastricht conference centre, Eden Hotels Maastricht and Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht engaged in this enlightening short video. They opened doors that normally remain closed and gave a glimpse behind the scenes, where it comes to local sourcing, waste management, energy reduction, decent work and community building.

Since industrialization, many business sectors, including manufacturing and transportation, have contributed to the acceleration of global warming, and the MICE industry is no exception. Events such as exhibitions and conventions generate large amounts of waste, and carbon dioxide is emitted as visitors travel to event locations, further polluting the environment.

In late August 2023, the international ICESS conference (The 15th International Conference on Electronic Spectroscopy and Structure) was held in Oulu. The conference, that was held in Finland for the first time, gathered 190 participants from 24 different countries.

Visitors who come to Busan for MICE events also look for opportunities to experience the city’s culture and natural beauty. Every year, the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO) discovers and designates Busan Unique Venues, which are distinctive MICE assets found only in Busan. In 2023, three new Busan Unique Venues, each with its own unique charms, were selected to be the face of Busan’s MICE industry.

Busan is a leading marine city that is growing into a global MICE center thanks to its rich natural heritage of beaches, mountains, and rivers, not to mention an advanced infrastructure that is only befitting of the second largest city in Korea. Over the past 20 years, Busan has successfully hosted a string of international events. Today, the city is working to qualitatively improve its MICE standing and enhance the value of its core industries.

The world’s largest multi-sport participatory event - the World Masters Games, founded in 1988 in Toronto, will have its eleventh edition in 2025, marking its historic debut in Asia, as it lands in Taipei and New Taipei City, Taiwan. The recent World Masters Games occurred in 2017 but were suspended for 8 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During these 14-day games, over 20,000 international athletes are expected to gather and compete in 35 different sports.
