The new Flanders Meeting & Convention Center Antwerp combines the best of both worlds. The latest equipment is integrated with the splendid, authentic facade and rooms which have existed for many decades. The newly constructed building offers a wide range of technical facilities which guarantee optimum visitor comfort and audio-visual quality for visitors of conventions and meetings. All rooms are equipped by multimedia equipment and WIFI. National and international conventions will be able to welcome their participants in qualitative and contemporary conditions. And according to Kirkegaard, the Queen Elizabeth Hall scores 9.3 out of 10 for acoustics.
Low environmental impact, sustainable materials and low-energy consumption are the ‘green thread’ that runs through the entire new project. The green vegetation on the roof, for example, ensures that heat is stored and reflection is avoided. This significantly increases the insulating capacity. The rest of the building is perfectly insulated according to the latest standards, in order to avoid loss of heat. The new heating and ventilation system meets the highest environmental standards, ensuring that the energy consumption is kept as low as possible. All the wood that is used carries the FSC label, and rainwater is recovered for use in maintenance and in the plumbing system. This makes the Elisabeth Center Antwerp a fine example of the environmentally conscious concepts of ZOO Antwerp (Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp).
